This is a big problem for a peeler, and I don't know why they would do this except to save some money. I almost returned it, but decided to keep it and see how it performs. So far it hasn't been much better than the metal peeler I have. The problem with metal peelers is that they lose their edge over time and you can't sharpen them. Ceramic blades stay sharp a lot longer so I thought it would be an improvement, but it isn't since it is basically half a peeler only.

This is a good product in general. The ceramic blade is sharp and does a good job peeling potatoes and carrots and cucumbers. We've been using this one for 6 months now and there are problems. We keep it in the "utensil" drawer with all the other accumulated kitchen stuff and it's held up just fine.

The only possible negative is that if you've got big hands and are peeling small vegetables then it gets tricky. I even managed to nick my finger tip on a small potato ... patience is a virtue here so take your time.

I'd buy this again...
